Professional Topics Submissions

  • Professionals: Doctors and health care pros, attorneys, financial and investment experts, teachers, trainers, counselors and consultants of all types are welcome to send us self-authored articles about subjects of particular interest to the community. 
  • Service Professionals: If your profession involves services to the community, your articles are welcomed. Examples: If you're a landscaper, tell us how and when to fertilize our lawns. If you're a mechanic, tell us the best ways to improve fuel performance. If you're a caterer, let us know how to throw a better party. The list goes on.....

General Topics Submissions Suggestions

  • Craftspeople: Know how to make things, or improve on existing products? Tell us how to refinish our kitchen cabinets, make holiday decorations from scratch, build a closet organizer, fix those broken shutters, convert a garage to a room, etc.   
  • Hobbyists: Everyone has a hobby, right? Share your tips on building model railroads, planting a better garden, starting a family scrapbook, photography, aviation, collecting stuff and more.
  • Homemakers: Share your recipes, tell us how to remodel on a budget, recommend appliances, save on utilities, fashion a studio, all things home-related welcomed!
  • Technology Whizzes: Share your thoughts and insights about personal computing, home audio, satellite TV, broadband Internet services, HAM radio, long-distance carriers, remote-controlled devices, video games and hardware, etc. If it's plugged in, talk about it!
  • Family & Children Buffs: Let all of the SCV know what your family does for special events, talk about vacations, how you handle school and daycare issues, disciplinary problems, teen things like dating, what makes your family special and anything else family related.
  • Pets On Parade: Does anyone in the SCV not have a pet of some sort? Tell us all about what you do to keep your pet happy, healthy and disciplined (and don't forget the fish!). Offer tips on groomers, vets, buying and selling (also see our Classifieds), pet stores, food, pet safety, licensing, maintenance and everything you do like Captain Kangaroo.
  • Home Business Masters: Many people are tired of working for someone else. If you have a successful home-based business, share your tips and ideas for helping others get started, sales, marketing and advertising, How to keep it running smoothly and recommendations for outside vendors (note: MLMs are regulated here to eliminate redundancy--sorry).
  • Local Issues and Politics: Share your thoughts about the proposed mine, talk about city issues, bond measures, zoning hearings, local politics, city programs, transportation. Put your red, white and blues on and start typing!
  • Others: If it's not listed, don't despair. We'll list other General topics as you submit them to us!

Some things are more appealing to guys (yes, some gals like this stuff too). Here are some suggested topics for our Guys section:

  • Sports Fanatics: Have some suggestions for a Lakers championship repeat? Want to see some changes in local sports for your kids? Have a burning desire to say something about the last Monday Night game? Are you a NASCAR nut? Well here's your chance. If you know anything about sports, or have an interest in what others are saying, this is the place to be.
  • Fast, Faster, Fastest: Talk about a Guy thing---engine madness, motorcycle mania, dragstrip dreamin, Baja vehicles, classic cars, 4-wheelers, ATVs, watercraft, powerboats, chopped rides, suspensions, trans builds, custom jobs, trick paints. Give us the low-downs, How-To's, wish lists, event schedules, club rosters and announcements, winner's circle, the whole nine yards. 
  • "He who dies with the most toys......" Great forum to share your articles on model-building, railroading, video and audio systems, computer gaming, remote-controlled vehicles and aircraft, guy-gift ideas, tools, machinery, etc. Let's hear about the stuff we need to stay happy.
  • Handyman Central: Got some great ideas and techniques for home improvements, lawn & garden maintenance, installing patio doors, repairing that leaky roof, etc? Well, don't keep it to yourself---help those of us who aren't quite as skilled.
  • Recreational Bliss: Yep....the place for master home-brewing tips, skilled barbeque and chili  recipes, tobacco talk, smart billiards, cards and darts play, fishing, hunting, camping, sailing, etc. Basically whatever guys like to do to wind down. Give us your best.

"It's a Gal Thing." 

Subjects the ladies like (and an educational experience for the guys). Here are some suggested topics for our Gals section:

  • Relationships: Offer helpful advice and insights on personal relationships, husband and child management, mother-in-law stuff, career-juggling, dating, friendships, social issues and more. 
  • Health & Fitness: Great way to share your knowledge about exercise products and regimens, dieting and healthy cooking, pregnancy fitness, preventive health maintenance, and all things that keep gals ticking right along. 
  • Shopping Madness: If you know the best places to shop, ways to save, help with jewelry and accessories, fashion sense, home accessories, and everything else that has to do with buying with style, share it! 
  • Party at Home: Like to do the home party thing? Well let the other ladies in town know about you! Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, scrap-booking, candle-making, crystal, lingerie, and all the other goodies you offer for a fun and profitable get-together.
  • Critique It! Have you read an excellent book, novel or article recently? Seen any good movies lately? Just return from a romantic cruise? Tell us your opinion about those things! Inquiring minds want to know!

"It's a Kid Thing."

Hey, kids are people too! Both parents and kids are welcome to submit. Here are some suggested topics for our Kids section:

  • Fun and Games: Tell everyone about the latest computer, video and Playstation games you like or dislike, and why. Use this section to discuss cycling, skating and boarding, places you've been to on vacation, Summer Camp, and all the other fun stuff you can.
  • Educational Excellence: Has your youngster made something or written a masterpiece in school that you'd like the whole community to see or read? How about those stellar report cards? Send it to us--we'll publish it for the relatives who aren't here to see it! (Also saves $$ on long distance).
  • Books, Movies and Media: Know of some excellent bedtime stories? How about where to get the latest children's video collections or read-along books? Don't forget about music! Have you found an excellent Internet resource for kids? Tell other parents about these things, as well as relay any warnings you may have regarding unsuitable media that's out there too. 
  • More Stuff: Know where to get the best deals on kids clothes and shoes? What about discount school supplies? Furniture? Toys? Help the moms and dads in Santa Clarita save a few dollars! Have you just bought your teen his or her first car? Tell us what your considerations were.

Announcements Section

Make a special announcement here under the appropriate category. This section is specifically designed so that you may send us a  photograph, and include a 100-word paragraph about your announcement (see our Submit It section). Once again, this is a terrific way to share family, personal and business information with folks both in and outside of our community. Each announcement is posted for 30 days. The categories are as follows:

  • Weddings: Share your special wedding announcement before or after the walk down the aisle.
  • Births: Spread the joy of your newborn!
  • Birthdays: Here's your chance to convince everyone that you're younger than you really are.
  • Best Wishes & Condolences: For illness well-wishes and/or sympathy for loss.
  • Graduations: Age doesn't matter--if you graduate, let the world know!
  • Business: Share new product releases, promotions, retirements, expansions, acquisitions, etc.
  • Special Events: Fundraisers, record-breakers, milestones, awards, celebrations, etc.
  • Sports: Player-of-the-Year, team victories, coach of the month, new leagues, all sports.
  • Pets: Announce your special pet!
  • Friends & Romance: Special romance, your very best friend, parents, anniversary, etc.
  • The Arts: Announce your new masterpieces, compositions, reviews, exhibits, concerts, etc.
  • Special Thanks: Share special thanks for someone's good work, assistance or guidance.

Be a Regular Contributor

Whether you've always wanted to be a reporter, photographer or columnist, have specialized experience in something, or just want to create and maintain an ongoing subject of interest to the community, City Spectrum would love to have you aboard!! We're currently accepting regular contributors (on a volunteer basis) under these categories:

  • Local sports news: Keep us all up to date on the latest happenings in SCV sports. You may focus on one particular sport, team or age group, or cover a broader cross-section of local sports.
  • Local news, business and/or politics: Write about the important issues that impact us all.
  • Special feature columnists: Share handyman tips, remodeling and interior design ideas, fishing and hunting secrets, computer mastery, successful business techniques, cooking and recipes, arts and crafts ideas, automotive issues, lawn and garden maintenance, health and fitness advice, parenting and children issues and others.
  • Photographers: Submit your photos of life and scenery in the SCV to us--we'll post them on a special page for city news and events. Just send a brief description of the content of the pictures and we'll take it from there.

So there you have it--your chance to offer your personal experience and insights to the community on the SCV's most popular info site.
